"I don't do drugs. I hate those street people." - Talking about how he hated homeless drug addicts, who were some of his targets.
"I'm doing God's work. There's a lot of evil on these streets and that's why I help cops with drug dealers." - What he said when a police officer aquaintance asked him why he was ratting on drug dealers.
"Remember the Zodiac case? Did they ever make an arrest? Did they ever get anybody for that? Do they have any leads, did they ever have any suspects?" - What he asked a police officer aquaintance in 1996, about the New York Zodiac investigation.

"Well, listen, I think I will surrender. How much time am I gonna serve in jail? Which jail am I going to?" - What he asked, when he was ready to surrender to police.
"I have six or seven guns. I want to unload them first. I have pipe bombs... in my room all the way back. Two small pipe bombs, a tear-gas canister, and one small grenade. There's a bunch of ammunition in there." - What he said when the police wanted him to give up all of his weapons.
"I should have killed him." - What he said after he gave himself up to the police, and saw that his hostage was safe.
"They're a hobby. I stopped making them when I was a kid." - When a police officer asked about all his home-made guns, after he was arrested.

Heriberto Seda
[upside-down cross with 7 7 7]
- His first written confession to shooting his half-sister (victim Chachi Reyes, who survived). They made him rewrite it to include shooting at the police.
"That represents God's pure love." - When asked what the cross with three 7's meant, that he drew on his confession to shooting his half-sister, victim Chachi Reyes (who survived).
Repent
- What he wrote at the bottom of his second written confession to shooting his half-sister (victim Chachi Reyes, who survived) and shooting at the police.
"I don't know what you're talking about." - His response when detectives told him that they had his fingerprints and that they knew he was the Zodiac.
"I don't have to be sorry for anything I did. I only have to worry about it with God. Jesus and God are going to forgive me, not you. I'm at peace with God. I don't have to repent to you. I only have to talk with God." - His response when detectives told him to confess to his crimes.
"I've been here. If you had been doing your jobs you would have caught me a while ago." - What he said to detectives, referring back to when they arrested him the first time for weapon possession.
"She was in front of the YMCA. I approached her. I wanted to get her into the park. I walked with her into the reservoir and offered her cigarettes. We walked into the place where I was going to shoot her. It was dark and foggy. I shot her and..." [interrupted by detectives] "I'm telling you I shot her. I shot her and then I stabbed her. I fired and she fell. I went to reload and she..." [interrupted by detectives] - Part of his confession to killing victim Patricia Fonti.
"I guessed. Some of them I got from watching television." - When asked how he knew the zodiac signs of his first four victims before he shot them.
"I don't actually know anything about astrology."

"They were sinners. I was doing God's work." - His response when other prisoners in jail were taunting him about his murders.
"She was bringing boys into the house. They were drug dealers." - When a court officer asked him why he had shot his half-sister (victim Chachi Reyes, who survived) and taken her friend as a hostage.
"I needed attention. For once in my life, I felt important. I was lonely, in pain. I have no friends." - When a court officer asked him why he had done the Zodiac attacks.
"Because I found God. It's something I put behind me. I found God." - When a court officer asked him why he had stopped doing the Zodiac attacks.
"If they can forgive me from their hearts, they in turn will be forgiven by God for the sins they have committed. My messages come from the Bible. You know, in many ways I wish I had been born as a Jew. I am a Christian, but Jews, you know, they seem to have a much greater commitment to God, like they are more serious about it than others." - What he said in an interview from jail in 1996.
"Yes, I will be in prison, a place like this for the rest of my life, probably. No, jail doesn't bother me. It's a prison in here, but it's a prison out there. I have no trouble in here. Anyway, wherever you are, Earth is only a waiting room for heaven." - What he said in an interview from jail in 1996.

"I thought she had a good smile and good character, so I started to give her extra trays of food and candy from the commissary." - About his transsexual lover who he met in prison.
"I liked that she was excited by my murders. It was a little plus for us. She used to put the zodiac sign all over her cell as a tribute to me. I'd see one and say, 'Is that a new one?' And she'd say yes. It flattered me." - About his transsexual lover who he met in prison.
"I'm not gay. I focus on her feminine exterior. I'm not interested in what's down there, not until after the operation. I think of her as a woman." - About his transsexual lover who he met in prison.
"If we had been out on the streets, I probably would have killed them both." - About his transsexual lover and another guy she was with, in prison.
